Why Wait?

The truth is, I've been hiding my weight gain.
*image from 2013*
Prior to 2012 I didn't have much of a weight problem.
There was never the boing boing boing, up and down fight against pounds
and feeling good physically.
But by the spring of 2012 I was feeling pudgy,
so I took matters seriously and started eating a smart diet.
Smart for me that is.
Lots of fresh ground turkey breast and salads, and nearly took all sugar and carbs out of my daily food intake.
I walked EVERY day, up and down our street.
I didn't count calories.
I counted pounds OFF by checking the scale each morning
as well as always taking note of how my pants fit.
 You see....
my weight gain happens around the waistline
so watching how my britches fit is how I can gauge weight loss.

By September I was feeling at my best, both physically and mentally,
because for me, when I look in the mirror and see something unhealthy about my looks, it affects how my head feels about me.
Weight gain for me is nothing more than laziness.

I want to feel good again.
I want to be more svelte.
Call it what you want, whether it be my own vanity or perhaps just that I want to live life smarter and healthier.

I can't manage to walk on the road we now live on due to the hills being too difficult for my knees to handle, but biking works well for me.
I have had the recumbent exercise bike since Friday...
I started out doing 3 miles each morning, but today I increased it to 5 miles.
Let's see what happens with this now 61 year old body that I live in.
Oh, and I'm also eating less already and have more energy also.
Amazing what moving your body can do.

Why wait until after the holiday season and all of those sugary treats?
Why wait until I have added the weight of a Christmas ham around my waistline?
I've started already and if I miss out on cookies, bars and cakes, then so be it.
All the more for everyone else, right?
Let THEM eat cake!!

Time To Go For A Ride

My new toy arrived on Friday... see it there behind the foliage?

Read out shows pulse, distance, elapsed time, heartbeats, speed, and calories burned.
Easy to pedal OR you can adjust the tension for more difficulty.

AND
it's quiet!!
My husband even commented that coming down the hallway he did not hear it.
Silence is golden, if I choose to do an early morning of exercise while my husband is still in bed asleep.
I think I mentioned in a previous post that it is only $149.99 through Target, Wal-Mart or Amazon. I chose to make my purchase at Target.  It shipped all the way from California with no dings or dents and all wire connections in perfect working order.

It's such a nice size and fits into a small area in the corner of my home office.

So happy that my neighbor has one and let me take hers for a spin before I made the decision to buy mine.
It's an awesome little recumbent exercise bike, and that fact that it sits near my computer, I can pull up some great videos with music on my computer as inspiration while I pedal away.
Hoping to shed some pounds soon with the help of this sweet little bike.

Merry Christmas from me to me!

Time To Admit I Am Fat

 It's that time of year.
That time when we seem to eat, drink, and shop wildly.
All things we do in excess.
I'm as guilty as most of the rest, and it's not the way I used to be or WANT to be.
Okay, so the shopping thing is something I won't change,
but the eating and sloth ways of just sitting around must be tweaked in some way for the better because too much food mixed with little movement of my ass is making this girl uncomfortably girthy.  fat.  chubby.  la chico muy rotundo.  LOL
So... people get upset if anyone calls them fat.
Truth is, all they need do is look in the mirror and it's pretty darned obvious if they are FAT.
I am getting to the point of being fat, and I don't consider it 'fat shaming' if anyone calls me on that.
I. Am. Getting. Fat. And. Uncomfortable.

There is no need for me to have gotten this way.
I did it to myself and now I iz gonna un-did this to myself.

My neighbor received this Exerpeutic Folding Recumbent Bike last year for Christmas, and some months later told me about it and had me over to see it and try it out.
I LOVED it, and have hemmed and hawed over purchasing one ever since.
Today I did just that.
Finally ordered one.
Years ago I had a recumbent bike and used it quite often, but it was such a brute when it came to size and sat in our family room taking up far too much space.
Eventually we sold it.
This one is smaller and it folds so that it can be moved out of a room easily and into a corner somewhere out of the way.
AND, look how inexpensive it is!  $149.99 vs. the larger models that are around twice that much money.
The plan is to set it here in my office and use it every morning until I drop the pounds and feel better physically.  Maybe I'll even get my cholesterol level under control a bit.  I also plan to use my hand weights while pedaling. Hey... I can move more than one body part at a time, multi-talented girl that I am.

I ordered mine from Target, but I think that Wal-Mart and Sam's Club also sell them and it has super online reviews from buyers.

Below is the video on the recumbent bike.

Once it arrives and is here in my office I'll keep you apprised of it's benefits to me.

Burning Calories

A good part of getting healthy, is not only putting the right foods in your mouth, it's also VERY much about having a good work-out or rather, exercise routine.
Here's the one I plan to start this week in order to burn off calories and work those muscles.

Won't you join me?

Get Moving

Yesterday I posted regarding exercise equipment, and I have made a decision as to which would be the best for me, so I will be placing my order soon.

Today I stumbled.... yes, stumbled, because that is how I come upon so many subjects I blog about.
By pure accident.
I stumbled upon an article about playground equipment for adults.

It's about adding equipment to playgrounds for all ages, rather than just for children.
It's an idea that is being implemented in a few European countries, and also a handful of places here in the U.S.
Read the article and see what you think.
Would you use one if you could not afford to join an exercise gym, purchase your own equipment, or if you were spending time taking your grandchildren to the park?
Do you think it would encourage some people of age to get out of their home more often and socialize with others of their age?
Looks like a lot of fun to me!

What are your thoughts?
