Aging Gracefully

I fell in love with this video that I stumbled across on Facebook today.

I think that as we age, our conversations with our spouses become gentler.
We stay home more and garden, do lawn work and find projects within the home that keep us occupied and content simply to spend time with eachother.... at least that is the case with my marriage.

Don't they just have the loveliest voices?
Enjoy!

Get Moving

Yesterday I posted regarding exercise equipment, and I have made a decision as to which would be the best for me, so I will be placing my order soon.

Today I stumbled.... yes, stumbled, because that is how I come upon so many subjects I blog about.
By pure accident.
I stumbled upon an article about playground equipment for adults.

It's about adding equipment to playgrounds for all ages, rather than just for children.
It's an idea that is being implemented in a few European countries, and also a handful of places here in the U.S.
Read the article and see what you think.
Would you use one if you could not afford to join an exercise gym, purchase your own equipment, or if you were spending time taking your grandchildren to the park?
Do you think it would encourage some people of age to get out of their home more often and socialize with others of their age?
Looks like a lot of fun to me!

What are your thoughts?

Taking Care Over Sixty

I guess as I've aged I've taken my health more seriously, and am taking daily care and precautions, preventive actions, to keep myself going a few more decades.

I am finally taking Fish Oil, Vitamin D, Magnesium, B-12 and Glucosamine every morning after having a breakfast or on some days a brunch, some of these at the suggestion of my doctor, and others because I've read what they can do for you.
Did you know that taking Fish Oil can help to lower cholesterol?  You can take up to four a day, and if you are currently on cholesterol medications and want to get off of them, then this is one step in getting started.
Vitamin D.... well, let's face it, none of us get enough of it, so my doctor started me on them, and I also, on my own, began taking Magnesium, because it helps in a HUGE way to help the body absorb the Vitamin D more readily.
B-12?  My doctor also started me on this vitamin.  Here is what the Nature Made vitamins website has to say about it.
Great for red blood cell formation and for those of us over age 50, well... we can use all the help we can get.

Get an annual physical and your physician will at that time draw blood and let you know what YOU need.

Floss at least once a day, and twice a day is even better.
Not only is this needed for healthy gums, but it's also good at keeping your heart healthy.
Who wants all that nasty stuff getting inside bleeding gums and into your blood system and heart!

Since I have deep pockets around my teeth due to some years of not seeing the dentist,
I have been using this heavy threaded floss.  It was made by Johnson and Johnson, and is very necessary for me to do a good job of flossing in those deep areas around my teeth.  Unfortunately, they have decided not to make it anymore, but I did find a place that had some left and ordered it in bulk online.
I will be looking for an alternative brand in the months ahead when my supply runs low.
FLOSS PEOPLE!
It will make you healthier and your dentist happier.

Speaking of me and my big mouth,
I have sensitivity and my dentist sells me this wonderful toothpaste.
It's expensive, but I use a little of this along with a little of a whitening toothpaste, and between the two of them my teeth shine!

 Life can be the pits...
LOL
I have used Mitchum Smart Solid fragrance free for years, but lately it is also becoming difficult to buy locally.
They seem to be replacing it with Mitchum Oxygen.  Tried it.... gave me scabs under my arms!  Seriously.
It's such a person thing, and we all seem to find what works best for us.
I ended up ordering this online in bulk as well.

Wear it.

So, bottom line is,
if YOU are over sixty,  start taking better care of yourself.
Stop monkeying around and saying
"I wish I had", or "I'll start tomorrow".

See ya around, hopefully for another twenty years!

Looking and Feeling and Acting and Being

Looking your age when in your sixties can be tricky, and I think we all want to look our age, but at the same time look good, and not ridiculous.  My looks have been bothering me since I aged to the ripe old decade of my sixties, and what I had been seeing in the mirror, well.... it wasn't pleasing to MY eyes, so how could I project myself to be perhaps a wee bit younger than what I was?

Wearing fun colored lipsticks and having my nails painted to match my toes and wearing fun flip flops.
Hats.
Cool, contemporary scarves.
Bright clothing... although for me this does NOT mean flowers and what I consider to be old lady blouses and smocks.
Yes, like most women in their sixties I have lumps and bumps and sags and even
WRINKLES *gasp* on my neck and face.

Looking 60 made me FEEL 60.
There are some ways I can't fix this, such as the way I feel physically when I rise from bed in the morning.  Having slept for 8 hours you would think that I would feel rested and ready to go for the day, but that's not the truth.  The truth is that I was feeling, many days, after being up for a few hours, that I could go back to bed and take a nap.  Not enough exercise and too many foods that are not good for me are the reason for this.
If I change my ways, eat more whole foods, move around and perhaps even exercise as I was doing just a few year s ago, I would probably once again feel as though I am still in my fifties, which was a great decade for me physically... other than those darned old hot flashes which I don't think will ever go away entirely.
I've also been taking a few vitamins that should help.
Fish Oil, Vitamin D, Vitamin B12 and now I have added Magnesium to my daily swallowing of pills.

 Acting young.
Well, no one wants to make a fool of themself at this stage in life since some of us *cough cough* did a good enough job of that earlier in life.
Live and Learn.
BUT
we vintage aged ladies don't have to sit around and moan and groan and wait for the hammer of death to bonk us on the head... instead we can step a bit lively, laugh more, go places.... you know... smell the roses in life so to speak.
Play with other vintage ladies and have a few laughs over a glass of wine or a cup of coffee.
We DON'T have to sit and do nothing.

Other things I am now doing to assist me in looking, feeling and being in my 60's and feeling good about it are:

Get a good haircut .(I need one right now)
Manicures and pedicures. (especially in the spring and summer)
Nose hair trimming.
Facial hair and eyebrow waxing.
Teeth whitening.
Not even thinking about heels... just wear flats that feel good! Why hobble around for heaven sakes?
Throwing away my eyeshadow since it just sits in the creases anyway.
Wearing mascara every day.
Reading only positive news stories... I mean who needs the drama of stories about fires and crashes and murders?  Just don't read it since it drags down on a positive attitude and makes you frown which only causes MORE wrinkles.
No longer wearing jeans that pinch.... say YES to elastic and stretchy pants as long as the rest of your outfit is young looking.
If I do wear jeans, I wear some with a bit of flair at the bottom.
Hats Hats Hats.
Scarves Scarves Scarves.
Great looking 'age appropriate' earrings.
Splurging on one expensive handbag.
Listening to current music and not getting lost in the 50's and 60's stuff ALL THE TIME.
Wearing bling bling necklaces, as long as my blouse or shirt is plain. *imho, mixing a lot of pattern and bling ages us*  Keep it simple stupid is my motto.
Use a good facial moisturizer... sleep with it on!
Keep the sun off your face! *see Hats Hats Hats above*
"But I don't look good in hats", you say.  HEY!  Everyone looks good in a hat if you find the right style for YOU.

Have I staved off aging completely?  Absolutely not, but a healthy, upbeat, current looking woman sure looks a lot better than someone who does not show a respect for the way they look.
When you take care of yourself there is an inner glow that shines through and although you won't look 24 again, or not even 40 again.... you will look 60 in a fabulous kind of way!
I guarantee it.
