When pigs fly.... that's when I'll stop having fun at Christmas time.
Have a holly jolly, ya'll, and instead of stressing over what to give who, and how big the Christmas ham needs to be or what to serve with it and which dishes to set the table with,
just be jolly and enjoy this special time of year.
That blogger that says it like it is and upsets people with my brutal honesty.
Some days I don't have a lot of filter to my words,
but somebody out here in Blogland has to keep ya'll in line so that others know not to be jealous of another bloggers life due to their always pretty photos and stories.
Don't you realize that you may be making money from your blog at the expense of other people who have low self esteem and feel they will never have what you have or have a perfect life like you do?
You should be ashamed of yourselves.
LOL
Oh jeez.... let them eat cake, right?
LOL
So, here I am posting another pretty, perfect, photo of myself in my off the shoulder top with my $500 handbag
and over the knee boots, the latest new look for fall that everyone needs.
LOL
Just kidding all you fashion bloggers.
What I am actually wearing is a $12.99 straw fedora hat from TJ Maxx from early on this summer,
you all know I LOVE my lipstick and bright shades of pinks, reds, oh... and a few milder colors.
I rarely leave the four walls of my house without some tantalizing bright shade around my toothy grin.
Not everyone loves lip color as much as I do, and that's okay too, although as some of us age, our lips disappear and having a good swath of color on them helps people recognize the fact that you do indeed have lips. LOL
Are you a lipstick hater?
Maybe you should just try it for a week like these ladies did.
and just for fun......
would you, or do you go commando?
I happen to enjoy wearing undies.
Some months ago I purchased a few plastic dancing bobbles at the Dollar Store to sit on the screened porch and entertain us.
They are solar operated, cheap, cutsie items, and I figured once they quit working I would go back to the Dollar Store and grab a few more.
Well, one day a stiff wind blew through the porch screens and the bobbles went tumbling to the floor... I didn't give their state of broken-ness a second thought, but obviously my Mr. Fix It, the retired engineer, needed something constructive to occupy his time that day.
It was all I could do to keep from laughing out loud that afternoon when I walked into our small office off the kitchen and saw THIS!
Obviously he wanted to save it's life, so he concocted a magnifying glass with a metal clip behind it and super glued the life back into the bobble toy.
It works perfectly once again, and it saved me $1.00 at the Dollar Store.
I love that he can fix ANYTHING, but sometimes he's just such a Bozo.
While my husband took the pups on the morning walk today in 38 degree, foggy, fall weather, I stayed home and enjoyed a egg, onion, avocado and pepper on toast breakfast.
It was delicious I might add.
Now, my husband always enjoys his walk which allows our pups to play with other neighborhood pups who happen to be out getting walked by their humans as well, and then he returns home and tells me all of what he heard from the neighbors.
He enjoys being a social butterfly here on our little backroad in Botetourt County.
A HIGHLY Republican county I might add, but we who are more liberal and possibly stick out like sore thumbs amongst the Fox News watchers don't mind, because we are all the same.
We all enjoy country grown tomatoes from our gardens.
We all share holidays and enjoy pumpkins on our porches this time of year. We all enjoy wearing jeans, hats, turtlenecks and things that keep us warm on 38 degree mornings.
Many of us enjoy technology and sitting on our porches and decks, and the internet technology that allows us to do so here in the country.
We all enjoy some great chicken from the grill with just a touch of char on it to go along with those fresh homegrown veggies.... and we LOVE sharing our veggies with one another,
and laughing at Republican neighbors who leave you a bag of squash in a bag at the end of the driveway with a pamphlet about the Constitution of The United States.
I guess he thinks we need to be converted to Trumpettes.
Sorry Dude.... not happening, but you sure gave us a good laugh this morning!
And.... if you want to discuss politics, come on over and we'll char you some chicken.
I suppose you could say that we have lived in enough homes, that by this decade in our lives we know all of the finer necessities and elements in a house that make it a livable house.
Now, when you have a back door to a house, it's imperative, in our humble opinion, that there be a cover of some type over the door... front door of the house too. Simply entering or leaving a home by way of a door with no cover and having to stand out in the pouring rain or snow just doesn't cut it.
The BEST thing we added to this house since our purchase in 2013 was the roof covering over the basement entry to the house....
Having rain, or snow that piles up. butting up against a door sill leads to wood rot as well.
IT will save you headaches and construction repair costs in the years ahead to add some type of cover over your entryways.
And, it gives your guests a feeling of welcome if they aren't soaking wet when they step indoors.
Dress the area up a bit and everyone will be happier.
And, if you have fur babies, they will be happy about this too!
It gives them time to consider if they want to step out from under the dry roof and do their business.
It can be a BIG decision for them when it's raining and thundering.
Yes yes.... we built our entryway roof just for them.
Deer in abundance in our neck of the woods, and this one did NOT feel that it was urgent to get off our lane so I could pass by.
I mean... just stand there and show me your backside and don't worry about the fact that I have groceries in the back of the truck that could be melting, souring, or over-heating and turning into maggot ridden meat!!!
A while back I needed to make a run to our vet's office to pick up a supply of the regular monthly meds that we give to our pups. Flowers were in full bloom on the front steps into the building and demanded my full attention with camera in hand.
I have to wonder what they look like this week with our very high outdoor temperatures beating down on them.
Anyway.... they made me smile.
I have to be sure to tell my husband after I do the grocery shopping as to whether or not I have 'plans' for some of the food I buy so that he won't use them for his own meal planning purposes.
The cherry tomatoes and mushrooms were a part of the 'roasted veggies' for last night's meal.
Quite tasty!
It's been in the upper 90's, so it's really just too hot to spend time on the porch... and that plant has moved indoors for it's own summer survival. Smart plant!!
Rowdy doesn't care... he sits out there anyway, but we do have to monitor his time spent in small quantities. He seems to have a 'summertime heat cranial disorder' (jk) that does not allow him to know when he is hot and to come inside, even when panting. You would think he would get the hint.
*sigh*
Yes. Summer is in full swing here in southwestern Virginia.
So, I signed up for Bloglovin a Looooong time ago, and every day I get an email from them listing blog posts I should read... most of them are about fashion stuff.... and they are quite lame to be honest.
They usually include 'how to' links.
Today's was 'How To Wear A White Tee With Denim Five Ways", or something along that subject line.
One day it was "Five Ways To Wear A Denim Skirt".
And I believe once it was "Five Ways to Wear Heels With Jeans".
I truly believe that fashion blogs are running out of ideas because they want to show us how to do things that we all know how to do. If anyone out there needs to be shown how to wear a pair of jeans or a white tee or their high heels, then this world has gone mad, or their mothers are not doing their jobs and teaching their daughters how to put on clothes by the age of three or four as they should.
And so today, I am going to show all of the dum dums who don't know how to wear a hat just how to wear a hat.
#1. Put the hat on your head.
#2. Put the HAT ON YOUR HEAD.
#3. Put the damn hat on your head!!!
#4. Pick up Hat. Place end with hole on top of your head.
I think I need to unsubscribe from Bloglovin.......
When boredom sets in and you're feeling like a hunk of road kill... not that it ever does for this old gal who feels as though she has been trapped inside a Dunkin Donuts box and eaten each and every one of them since the rain started in early December and still continues to fall, then perhaps you will choose to turn to your television and a few great shows.
We all had dreams as a child, or at least I would like to presume that we did,
and I sometimes wonder what my husband's dreams were.
What went on in that sweet little dimple-faced, I love my dog, boy's head,
besides "I wonder what would happen if I stick this fork in this electrical outlet? Will my mom take a broom and knock me off the socket when she enters the room accidentally at that very moment with a broom in her hand?"
You know....shit like that that extraordinarily precocious, meant to grow up to be an engineer, boys do.
HE'S LUCKY HE DID GROW UP!
He and I, although we never knew one another as children, did share a common dream, and that was to go somewhere else, to get out of the small towns we grew up in, he in Illinois and myself in Iowa.
Even my Barbie doll games reflected that as Barbie always chose to live on a mountain, a beach by the ocean, in a castle, anyplace but where she was; there were definitely no Iowa corn fields in my dreams.
Small town America.
Great places to grow up, but after that what?
The people I know that remained in that small town are great people... solid people...nice people...with friends they have known for their entire lives. Nothing wrong with that.
But I needed something more.
I wasn't sure what.
Just something different than what I had known for eighteen years.
My husband knew he did not want to work in a mine in southern Illinois, so going elsewhere, via the Air Force, was his route of escape.
My husband is still somewhat that little boy that stuck the fork in the electrical outlet,
a 'I wonder what will happen if' kind of guy, relying on his wife to come running with the broom
if necessary,
but these days he's learned to temper those inquisitive parts of his mind and instead just Google the question to find out the answer.
The dimples and his love for dogs still remain though.
Like me, he kisses their heads daily.
Some things, no matter where you live, simply never change.
He's quite busy all of the time, and when not napping indoors he's happiest being outdoors, either in the yard or on the screened patio where he keeps an eye out on the world below him.
Always one foot on the rail.... I am not sure what the significance is of this action, but he wants one foot on the rail. For balance perhaps?
LOL
And the head swivels from side to side so to know exactly where every butterfly, bird , and mole is digging in which portion of the yard.
He's a watch dog for sure and the alpha of his realm.
So mighty.
So kingly.
So hilarious.
Do not touch the king...
especially this time of the year....
or you will end up with this!
Which is why the king and his queen each had a bath yesterday in the walk-in shower in the basement.
I think we washed a dog-and-a-half of hair down the drain.
And then they both went outside to dry in the sunshine.
and with all of our rainy, damp days,
it's been difficult to find decent outdoor drying time.
I have an oil change appointment for my SUV today and also need to pick up a few groceries while I am in town.
Things are once again wet outside, following a rainstorm around midnight.
I know what time it was because Little Miss Izzy awakens at even the mention of thunder, begins wandering around the house and then comes and pokes at any part of my body that may be near the edge of the bed to let me know there is a storm.
"I know there is, Izzy. No nose poking is necessary".
No, we did not purchase a thunder coat/vest/t-shirt for her since she would have to wear it around the clock this time of year, 24/7, 365, considering that thunderstorms come daily, at any given moment, and what a pain that would be for all of us.
No, we have no plans to buy one.
Yes, your dog has one and it works perfectly.
No..... we are not getting one.
No, she's not overly nervous, just paces a bit until the thunder passes.
No, we will not be medicating her.
Not seeking advice here.
Just wearing their cooler clothing for their morning walk is enough
for them to deal with.
I mean.... dressing and undressing them two to three times a day?
Fuh-Ged-Aboud-It.
Cooler coat on.
Cooler coat off.
Neck cooler on.
Neck cooler off.
Thunder shirt on.
Thunder shirt off.
Neck cooler on again..
Ooops, time to take it off.
I hear thunder.. put that damn shirt back on.
Talk about High Maintenance Dogs!
They'll just be staying indoors a bit more now that temperatures are in the 90's which over-heats them, and daily thunderstorms arrive out of nowhere.
