Have you ever seen home grown tomatoes quite this meaty?
This is a German Johnson tomato, and it's my husband's favorite this year.
Other years the Purple Cherokee was the most highly regarded tomato he grew.
But this year it is hands down the German Johnson.
Obviously it loved the heavy June rains and into July as well.
Did I tell you that our weather has been changing?
Mornings have been down into the 50's and 60's, and even after a piping hot cup of coffee, being out on the deck has required a light jacket.
I'm digging this khaki jacket with orange lining.... rather like my husband would have worn in the Air Force.
It's not cold enough for a heavy fur coat as of yet.....
although this fella in our front yard may beg to differ.
We startled him as much as he startled us.....
so I guess we're even.
Right???
More heat on the way.... it's not done with us yet, but it is certainly summer winding down and on it's last leg.

Those "tomaters" look really beautiful . . .
ReplyDeleteHappy your hubs is enjoying the fruits of his garden . . .
Am I the only one, I like the color, the healthy look of the tomato . . .
I like sauces made with tomatoes . . .
BUT . . . eating a slice of tomato JOY doesn't happen for me . . .
I think I could pick up a fresh onion from the garden before a tomato . . .
Can't beat that lush color though . . .
I forgot everything when I saw the bear! How cool.
