Earlier this year it was announced that five Macy's stores in Virginia would be closing. I held my breath prior to clicking on the content of the online article hoping with all my might that our Macy's store here in Roanoke would NOT be on the list.
Huge sigh of relief. Our store was not.
It's difficult for me to find what I consider to be, decent stores, in which to shop in here in our rural area, and as other stores continue to leave our mall, and stores with clothing of little or no quality replace them, I ask myself if shopping online will soon be my only choice. Retail companies need to understand that some of us like to see and feel the product, which gives a better idea of it's quality, prior to making a purchase. Having to order an item only to re-package it and mail it back is a pain and inconvenience for me.
Yesterday it was announced that Macy's will now be closing an additional 100 stores, and once again I hold my breath waiting to know if our store would be on that hit list.
As you can see, if it closes, it will leave a large are of retail space empty in our mall.
If it closes, where do I shop? Will many of us who love Macy's product line be forced to shop online?
Not a happy camper, and waiting for the other shoe to fall.
ugh.
I fear that Macy's is going the way of other bygone large retailers.

I too like to try things on, get a feel of the fabric . . .
My clothing needs have diminished since I retired . . .
But I do like my certain stores to check on styles/trends, Macy's is one of "my stores!"
I do like shopping on line, when I am sure of the product . . . returning clothing is a hazzle and an extra expense!
Store closings are definitely a sign of the times. I very seldom shop in department stores. Years ago, when the LS Ayres stores were still open, it was a favorite. Ayres was a local department store and it was a big deal to dress up and go downtown Indianapolis to shop. One store I do enjoy walking through is Von Maur because of the way the store is laid out and the displays.
ReplyDeleteOn line shopping has taken it's toll..I can't tell you the last time I was in a department store..I really have enough clothes to last for sometime..I don't wear most of them..Stay cool...
ReplyDeleteCount me as part of the problem, because I can't remember the last time that I shopped at a mall store. I'm a big fan of second-hand and thrift stores for clothes ... new things come from places like T.J. Maxx and Marshall's.
