So really, for those of you who are still sending out cards each year, how DO you handle it?
Do you use the same list of recipients who are honored enough to be bestowed with your annual family photo, add to it, delete the schmucks who never send you one, or what?
I have always had one list of 'must send a card to' people and then the 'hmmm, do I send them one or not?', do they still send us one?, do they even remember us?, do they even give a rats?
Is it even an important thing to do anymore?
To be honest.... I enjoy receiving an annual greeting, sometimes the letters enclosed are nice, sometimes a bit to Jesus-y for me. Ya, I know what the holiday is about and how it originated and the meaning of a babe in a manger with donks and cows and such around him.... but still... can you keep the Jesus-y stuff in the card but maybe out of the letter?
ack..
And, we don't care if your daughter Matilda is a movie star now or went to Europe three times or if your son won the Heisman's Trophy... jeez.... just tell us how you are with a family photo enclosed. All that bragging and boasting is really a crappy thing to do, and it kind of makes people, the ones who can't afford to send their child over-seas, feel like crossing you off their list next year. Don't believe it? Well, trust me, I've crossed some off for doing that boastful thing.
My husband won't even read them when they arrive from certain people that he KNOWS will be all full of boastings and blessings.
Let's just exchange gifts letting one another know how much they mean to us and call it good for another year.
Maybe just a card with a cute bear or snowman on the front would be nice to send me.
Hallelujia!
LOTS of language in this video so BEWARE!!!

I make my own cards and my list is mostly internet friends - a way for me to reach out and touch in a more personal way than commenting on a blog or on FB...holiday letters -nah. I do hand write the cards and envelopes and usually add a special little greeting...I don't know whether the recipients are pleased to get the cards but it gives me great pleasure to send them.
ReplyDeleteOnce again . . . You made me laugh out loud, smile, giggle too . . .
ReplyDeleteThere used to be two gals, Kathy and Judy, WGN radio, and they would read some of the letters they would receive at Christmas on air. I often listened to them in the morning as I would be driving from one hospital to another. I'd be laughing so hard, I'd be crying. Made my day time and time again. The ones that get
me are the ones that list all their meds, tell about their surgeries, broken bones, on and on.
ReplyDeleteThanks for stirring up some smiles!
